Battle Format…

  • Traditional Battles (Qualifying Rounds)

    8AM and 11:50AM Battles

    In the traditional battles (2-4 games played/team), teams will work together to demonstrate their reading comprehension skills by answering questions about 10 award-nominated Canadian fiction books they have read over the past 5 months. Each battle lasts about 20 minutes. Correct answers earn 1 point, while questions answered incorrectly or passed are given to the opposing team for a chance to answer correctly.

    In each subsequent round, teams will face a new opponent and answer a slightly more challenging set of questions. These rounds provide an opportunity for teams to improve their overall rank and aim to be among the top 8 teams that advance to the Playoffs.

  • Lightning Battles (Qualifying Rounds)

    8AM and 11:50AM

    The Lightning Battle format, back by popular demand is another type of qualifying round where teams compete against each other to correctly answer as many questions as possible within 10 minutes. A correct answer awards 1 point, incorrect answer -1 point and a passed answer 0 points. This round will be counted towards a teams final rank.

  • Playoffs

    April TBD

    11:50 AM ONLY

    Quarter finals: 8 teams
    Semi finals: 4 teams
    Finals: for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

    The top 8 teams will advance to the Playoffs. We welcome all parents of the students who are participating in Battle of the Books to the Gym at 11:50AM for the final game.
